The rain got us wet, but art we still watched this past thursday night. my dear friend florencia put together a courtyard show to project her latest video creation as friends chris + chris put sculptures and found assemblage on display, but alas the rain washed away the outdoor courtyard fun and we all shuffled inside her cozy two bedroom east village apartment. inside, florencia installed a bathroom-cum-movie theater with a aluminum foiled tub complete with a lamp and pink flowers, where people would view her musings of popular culture, abstraction, dancing, nudity and violence, to a catchy soundtrack of Ricky Nelson's "I Will Follow You."
Florencia, who is still a student, a very talented one, at the School of Visual Arts, feels no medium should be more dominant than the rest as she mixes bold abstract paintings, thought-prodding masks made out of trash bags and sculpted pieces that continue to question her traveling childhood, and today's ongoing obsession with the material world.
